Google Photos is designed to be a home for all your photos and videos, and works across a host of devices including your phone and computer. The service is available starting Thursday, and will be accessible via a website, iPhone app, and Android app.

Google is calling Google Photos "a safe place" to store and share your photos, organizing your pictures and videos by life moments, day, month, or year. You'll be able to easily change how your photos are organized with "a simple pinch."

Each photo uploaded to Google Photos is immediately backed up on Google's servers and can sync with your Google Drive account. After uploading a photo, Google Photos brings your most recent upload to the top of the app, making it easy to find the last photo you captured.

In an effort to get everyone to use Google Photos, Google also announced that the service and app features free "unlimited storage," allowing you to upload as many photos and videos as you'd like.

Google is also integrating machine learning technology into Google Photos so the service can notice how you organize your photo and automatically mimic your preferences.

You can also search through your photo collections by keyword such as "Snowstorm in Toronto" and Google Photos will surface the relevant picture. Google is also introducing a new gesture for highlighting large batches of photos: simply tap, hold, and drag across the screen to select multiple photos at once.

If you want to share a photo from Google Photos with your friends, you can tap "Get a link" and send along a link to the photo that doesn't require your friend to also have Google Photos downloaded on their phone.

Google Photos goes live later today, and will be available online and through the iPhone and Android app.

On February 28, Axel Springer, Business Insider's parent company, joined 31 other media groups and filed a $2.3 billion suit against Google in Dutch court, alleging losses suffered due to the company's advertising practices.
