CRAM Robo roaches for disaster recovery
There's a reason cockroaches are supposed to be the one animal that will survive a nuclear explosion. This hardy insect is a pro at getting into and out of tight spaces, and surviving intense pressure. Because of these qualities, UC Berkeley researchers Dr. Kaushik Jayaram and Professor Robert Full designed and constructed CRAM, the Compressive Robot with Articulated Mechanisms. This robotic roach could be used to rescue survivors of emergency situations and building collapses.
