Google And Samsung Push Back The Launch Of The Next Big Android Phone*

Google and Samsung have decided to postpone the launch of the next big Android phone, just a week before it was to be unveiled.

Samsung said in a statement, via The Verge, “Samsung and Google decide to postpone the new product announcement at CTIA Fall. We agree that it is just not the right time to announce a new product. New date and venue will be shortly announced.”

Very strange.

This isn't like Apple "delaying" the iPhone 4S by introducing it in October instead of June like many people expected. Samsung was sending out media invites for a big event on October 11.

Maybe the software wasn't ready for primetime? Maybe Samsung is having manufacturing problems?

The new phone is expected to be a Verizon exclusive called the Galaxy Nexus. It was going to sport the latest version of Android's operating system, Ice Cream.

UPDATE: We just got confirmation from Samsung that the October 11 has indeed been postponed. Google and Samsung are now working on securing a new venue and date for the event. Here's the statement:

Samsung and Google have decided to postpone the Samsung Mobile Unpacked event during the CTIA in San Diego, previously scheduled for Oct. 11.  Under the current circumstances, both parties have agreed that this is not the appropriate time for the announcement of a new product.  We would ask for the understanding of our clients and media for any inconvenience caused. We will announce a new date and venue in due course.

EARLIER: Right after we posted this, Gizmodo posted the following video which is supposedly a leak of new Android operating system on the new Samsung phone:

On February 28, Axel Springer, Business Insider's parent company, joined 31 other media groups and filed a $2.3 billion suit against Google in Dutch court, alleging losses suffered due to the company's advertising practices.
